Tactical Edge teaches you methods which will enable you to stay safe in ANY situation.
Tactical Edge teaches you to defeat an attacker as quickly as possible in a way that keeps you safe from potential multiple opponents, and in an intelligent way that takes into account the potential legal repercussions from 'use of force'. You'll be taught effective striking methods that work in real life (no punching people repeatedly in the head and face which is likely to break your hands for instance), takedown techniques that quickly put an attacker down on the ground while you remain safely on your feet, limb destructions that let you target an attacker’s limbs as they try to attack you rather than simply 'blocking' which achieves nothing and locking & restraint techniques for situations where you may need to hold someone safely until help arrives or for when you can't justify using more force. You'll be taught effective methods of engaging an armed attacker, using disarming techniques, weapons returns and techniques where you can even gain possession of the attacker’s weapon. In Tactical Edge we assume that ANY attack involves a weapon as our default mode of engagement, as the majority of people attacked with a weapon don't even realise the attacker is armed until it's too late! You'll learn important tactical skills such as the correct tactics to use in different situations, how to improve awareness skills and spot potential situations ahead of time by using 'tricks of the trade' used by bodyguards and intelligence officers, what adrenal stress does to combatants & how to fight through it and defensive mental conditioning skills. Much of this material isn't taught in any other class.
As well as unarmed combatives, an important part of Tactical Edge is Skill-at-Arms training. You'll receive training in impact weapons, edged weapons, flexible weapons and improvised weapons. Why do we train in weapons skills when we live in a country where you can't carry a defensive weapon? Firstly, many people don't realise that weapons drills supercharge your unarmed combatives skills! Most people have a left hand - right hand bias. Stick & edged weapons training reduces this and trains you to be equally effective with both sides of your body. It improves co-ordination, timing, spatial awareness, body movement and much more. Plus, it’s just damn good fun and very satisfying. Also, we have many students who, due to their profession, travel in areas where they can lawfully carry a defensive weapon and where the threat is high enough to make this sensible. This makes Skill-at-Arms training invaluable! The way we integrate Skill-at-Arms methods into Tactical Edge is conceptual in nature. This means all our techniques are conceptual in nature, so the same movement can be used unarmed or with a weapon. What you do with a stick you could do with an edged weapon, with an improvised defensive tool, or with empty hands. Finally, if you want to be able to effectively defend against weapons you REALLY need to understand how those weapons can be used against you. This eliminates some of the suicidal weapons defence techniques we see in some 'reality-based martial arts' like direct blocking of knife attacks which will simply see you with a terrible knife wound to your blocking arm as the attacker withdraws his blade! Improvised weapons training will teach you how to pick up almost anything & use it as a 'force multiplier' if the threat level is high enough and your life is in danger.
